Wraiths - bases and basecoats

A small update on my wraiths.  The pilot two models get primed and base coated and the rest of the D-Scythe unit get mounted in ingenious fashion.

I was aware that a Cassandora Yellow wash over a pure white prime would be a little too bright so I washed the two models with Sepia first...

...and then the Cassandora yellow wash went on top.  I think I'm going to need a second coat to give the colour a richness but on first impressions I think the initial Sepia wash was a success, adding shade into the recesses.  Onlytime will tell...

Mounting your old Wraithguard...
Many many have the old Wraithguard models and will need to re-base on to 40mm bases. Problem. there are no slots on 40mm bases but fear not! I came up with an ingenious way of mounting them.

What you will need....
Take off the slot from the bottom of the model...

File away any protruding bits of metal....

apologies for the photo but hopefully you'll see the scoring of the feet...

secret ingredient...

Superglue the feet and place on the desired place on the base. I recommend Gel type superglue and not the runny stuff. (avoid GW glue like the plague it sticks nothing. you have a better chance trying to jail Silvio Berlusconi)

Now clump a load of liquid greenstuff on top of the feet and place the model back on the base.

looks ugly so smooth some of the excess on to the surrounding area.  don't worry if it looks a mess the basing will cover / disguise it.

Blue peter moment; Here's some I made earlier...

...and the whole gang...

Did you notice my makeshift Spiritseer? No? here's a close up. Noticed I've liquid green stuff'd out the eyes to blind him.  You'll notice the top of his staff is from Eldrad's staff of Ulthran. for some reason I had 2 of these milling about waiting to be objective markers..

yes its not straight, its not supposed to be...

..and because you're still reading, here's a treat. My Wraithseer Gerald.

yes I still need to finish him.

  1. I might have missed it but what was the point of the Liquid GS round the feet? Also I know you have an airbrush so why aren't you using it?! :P Joel would be most displeased. Washes are heroic through an airbrush :D

  2. Super glue on its own only sticks the feet. the green stuff is there to act like a bed for the little feets to plant into.

I do have an airbrush but I can't figure pout whats wrong with it :/

I need Joel to show me what I'm going wrong. Plus it makes an almighty mess. That is, I make an almighty mess...
