Whats on my Painting desk

Currently half way through basecoating my Marauder Horsemen. They probably won't be finished before the weekends games but they'll get an outing anyway.

Festus has an undercoat now and I really should get some colour on him before playing with him. A simple 3 colours vase coat will do for now.

I've always liked this Champion of Khorne and thought he would make a good war shrine executioner but that project is a way off yet. For now he's going to represent my Warlord Ras a'Gul, until I find a better substitute.

Hopefully Saturday ill get a bigger game. 1k is good but I want to get more units on the table.

Also hoping this weekend my other unit of horsemen arrive and I can get them modelled with shields and throwing axes. There's something very sinister about a burly Northman hurling ruddy big axes at you! For now I'll have to do with these guys and their flails....

Horselords

After my first couple of games it seems to me that a uit or two of light cavalry would benefit my list. So i have bought a couple of boxes of Marauder horsmen.  The first of which are half painted on my painting desk, (pictures to follow) and will be armed with flails and the Mark of Khorne. these guys hit hard and can destroy in one turn any light cavalry, warmachine crew, lone casters or skirmishers they are likely to encounter.

The other unit will be equipped with sheilds and throwing axes. these will be a hassassment unit and being not subject to frenzy will be a little easier to control.

I've also managed to aquire a small unit of chosen but want to find some lava type bases to put them on before I start painting them up.

A lesson in not peeing off The Blood God

Second game today and I took 2 sorcerers. And in the early stages if the game did not proceed at full speed to bloodify everything and anything in my path.

To show his displeasure, Khorne made sure I never had an effective magic phase. Don't think I ever rolled more than 6 for the winds if magic. Khorne also made sure my juggernauts were ineffective.

I scraped the win due to my 40 marauders batting off anything that came near them. Giant, spider riders, fanatic.

A few pictures, because I know you like them...
Deployment, my right flank.
As you can see I deployed a refused flank and all but one unit if warhounds went on my right flank. Blurred pic but on this flank I'm facing 20 boys, Orc chariot, Giant and 6 Boarboys with Orc Big Boss.

Deployment, my left flank
a lone unit of 5 warhounds holds my left flank though a large wood covers the flank of my main force. The wathound only job was to draw out the fanatics from the night goblins who you an see on the hill in the enemies centre field.  a large unit of 10 spider riders face the warhounds but don't really make an impact on he game

Turn 3 charge of the light cavalry
Turn 3 I manage to get a charge off against Ryans boar boys. I manage to win combat and run down his Big Boss! This unit then goes on to help kill a chariot and overun into the flank of he orc boys preventing their charge against my foot marauders. So they get this games MVP award.

Nick, GW Uxbridge's manager looks for (unsucessfully for the first 13mins) the rules for magical vortex's

battle for the centre
stupid magic vortex
The big nasty vortex spell (large template) Ryan cast took 3 wounds off my Skullcrushers (yes, I failed 3 I5 tests!!!). combined with 2 'Eadbutts ruined my skullcrushers day. I had high hopes for charging these guys in with feckless abandon but this did not happen and Khorne punished me.

First blood!

My first game and its a win!

My opponent, Ryan (Orcs and Goblins) was a relative noob but considering I haven't played the fantasy game in over 15 years I'm hardly a vet.

Fotos below but a few notes in summary.

I thought I'd miscast a a lot more
Regenerate is awesome
Skullcrushers are tough as nails
Giants aren't that hard to kill

Skull crushers are so good their performance in the game actually stopped me buying more. 3 are good, 4 better but 6 would be overkill.

Festus was really good as regen on my marauders really helped them stay in the game.

My marauders were my MVP unit as they saw of a giant, a flank change from spider riders and a unit of night goblins.

It did help that my enemy's big unit of Big Un's (with the shaman hiding in it) failed their animosity for two turns in a row.

here's a few pictures I took in game...

The Giant charges...

...and he runs away!

The Skullcrushers eye up the Orc Warboss and his Boar boys

After seeing off the Giant and repelling the Spider riders(you can see them running away centre right) the Marauders flank charge the night goblins. 2 guesses how that went...

Funny moments of the game on his side was 2 fanatics charging out of the night Goblins getting into great positions to do a lot of damage to both my Warriors and the Marauders only to spin in to each other and kill each other.

On my side the Giant charges my Warriors, my Lord strides out, puff outs his chest and completely fluffs his attacks not even wounding once.

unfunny moments. Ryan not getting a Magic phase due to animosity frustrating for him.  When he does however casts Foot of Gork with irresistible Force and not scattering on to my warriors killing seven of them.  His shamen did however Detonate killing 5 Big Un's and himself :0)

Great introductory game will be playing him again tomorrow only I'll have a quite different list.

Marauder horde & Skullcrushers

40 marauders with Great weapons ready for battle!

Also started on the Skullcrushers as I couldn't wait to get stuck into these.

These are going to take a while as the models are so detailed and involved. I've gone for a three tone colour scheme but fear this is going to be too busy.

The under carrcus is a base of warp lock bronze, the armour plates Khorne red and the trim and highlights Screaming bell.

My idea is to lighten the bronze and darken the red so they blend well.

Watch this space....

Plan derailed. I blame Khorne

So I went in to Games Workshop today and came out with the Skullcrushers. Because I'm weak like that...

(Stupid iPhone camera and poor lighting
can't wait until I get a proper nerd cave)

Daedelus Kraetyr: The B&C challenge continues...

Daedelus Kraetyr: The B&C challenge continues...:

I'm loving this guy. The colour scheme on the vehicles is perfect. I don't have a clue how to get that shade.

Really liking the Company Chamipion. Spear, shield combo. True Spartan style.

You get hero points my friend.

6 Death Company

Jump packs

10 Tactical marines

missile launcher

Fast Attack

Baal Predator

Plan in motion!

The Minotaurs are temporarily on the shelf and the Chaos Warriors are on the painting desk.

Last night I sucessfully built the remaining Mauraders bringing up my total to 40 and also arranged my Chaos Warriors, all 24 of them ready for painting.

This weekend I want to break the back of it. I may even enlist the wife and make a production line stlye painting job.

I'll be spraying the Mauraders white tonight and the warriors red all ready for the weekends fun.
